(1) Write in cubic centimeters.

(a) 875 mL = 875 cm3

(b) 3 L = (3 × 1000) = 3000 cm3

(c) 8 L 29 mL = (8 × 1000) + 29 = 8029 cm3

(d) 16 L 3 mL = (16 × 1000) + 3 = 16003 cm3

(2) Write in liters and milliliters.

(a) 728 cm3 = 728 mL

(b) 1,039 cm3 = 1 L 39 mL

(c) 8009 cm3 = 8 L 9 mL

(d) 18,070 cm3 = 18 L 70 mL

(3) Find the volume of each of the following tanks and their capacity in liters.

(a) Height = 3 m, Length = 6 m, Width = 4 m.

Solution: Volume = (3 × 6 × 4) m3 = 72 m3 = 72000 L

(b) Height = 1.5 m, Length = 2 m, Width = 3 m.

Solution: Volume = (1.5 × 2 × 3) m3 = 9 m3 = 9000 L

(c) Height = 0.16 m, Length = 0.25 m, Width = 0.2 m.

Solution: Here, 0.16 m = 16 cm, 0.25 m = 25 cm and 0.2 m = 20 cm

Volume = (16 × 25 × 20) m3 = 8000 cm3 = 8 L

(d) Height = 16 cm, Length = 50 cm, Width = 15 cm.

Solution: Volume = (16 × 50 × 15) cm3 = 12000 cm3 = 12 L

(4) A milk can is 40 cm × 30 cm × 20 cm.

(a) Find the volume of the milk can.

Solution: Volume = (40 × 30 × 20) cm3 = 24000 cm3

(b) How many liters of milk can the can hold?

Ans: The milk can could hold 24 L milk.

(c) A liter of milk costs Rs 15.80. For how much can one buy one can?

Solution: The costs of one can milk = Rs (24 × 15.80) = Rs 379.20

(5) A fish tank is 30 cm long, 15 cm broad and 10 cm high.

(a) Calculate its volume in cm3.

Solution: The volume = (30 × 15 × 10) cm3 = 4500 cm3

(b) Write down its volume in milliliters and in liters.

Ans: Its volume in milliliters = 4500 mL

In liters = (4500 ÷ 1000) L = 4.5 L

(6) A petrol tank is 50 cm long, 40 cm broad and 30 cm high.

(a) What is the capacity of the tank in (i) cm3 (ii) liters?

Solution: The capacity of tank = (50 × 40 × 30) cm3 = 60, 000 cm3 = 60 L

(b) Find the cost of filling it with petrol at Rs 29.50 per liter.

Solution: The required amount = Rs (60 × 29.50) = Rs 1770

(7) A container in the shape of a cube has sides one meter long. Calculate its capacity in

(a) Cubic centimeters = 1000000 cm3

(b) Milliliters = 1000000 mL

(c) Liters = 1000 L
