Problem Solving
(1) Eight birds sat on a wire. Three flew away. How many were left?
Solution: 8 – 3 = 5
Ans: 5 birds were left.
(2) Three boys were playing marbles. Two more boys came along and played marbles them. How many boys were playing marbles?
Solution: 3 + 2 = 5
Ans: 5 boys were playing marbles.
(3) Sanjay had 7 rupees. He spent 4 rupees. How many rupees are left with him?
Solution: 7 – 4 = 3
Ans: 3 rupees are left with Sanjay.
(4) Five boats were tied up. Four of the boats sailed away. How many were left?
Solution: 5 – 4 = 1
Ans: 1 boat was left.
(5) In a class room, there were 2 brown tables, 1 red table and 3 green tables. How many tables were there in all?
Solution: 2 + 3 = 5
Ans: 5 tables were there in all.
(6) Ashok had 4 books on cars, 5 on aeroplanes and 7 on boats. How many books did he have in all?
Solution: 4 + 5 + 7 = 16
Ans: 16 books did he have in all.
(7) Sarita had 45 sweets. She gave away 19 sweets. How many sweets was she left with?
Solution: 45 – 19 = 26
Ans: 26 sweets were left with Sarita.
(8) A farmer had 45 sheep before he bought 25 more. How many sheep does he have now?
Solution: 45 + 25 = 70
Ans: 70 sheep does the farmer has now.
