EXERCISE 21B

(1) Find the median of:

(i) 3, 11, 7, 2, 5, 9, 9, 2, 10

Solution: Arranging the numbers in ascending orders,

2, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 9, 10, 11

Number of terms, n = 9; it is an odd number.

Median = (9+1)/2 th observation

Median = 5th observation.

Median = 7.

(ii) 9, 25, 18, 15, 6, 16, 8, 22, 21

Solution: Arranging the number in ascending orders

6, 8, 9, 15, 16, 18, 21, 22, 25

Number of terms, n = 9; it is an odd number.

Median = (9+1)/2 th observation

Median = 5th observation

Median = 16

(iii) 21, 15, 6, 25, 18, 13, 20, 9, 16, 8, 22

Solution: Arranging the numbers in ascending order,

6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 18, 20, 21, 22, 25

Number of terms, n = 11; it is an odd number.

Median = (11+1)/2 th observation

Median = 6th observation

Median = 16
