RS Aggarwal Class 6 Math Fifth Chapter Fractions Exercise 5E Solution

EXERCISE 5E

1.) 5/8+ 1/8

Solution:

6/8

= ¾ (After cut 6 and 8 by 2)

2.) 4/9 + 8/9

= 12/9

= 4/3 (After cut 12 and 9 by 3)

3.) 1  3/5+ 2 4/5

= 8/5 + 14/5

= 22/5

4.) 2/9+ 5/6

= 4+15/18

= 19/18

5.) 7/12 + 9/16

= 28+27/48

= 55/48

6.)  4/15  + 17/20

= 16+51/60

= 67/60

7.) 2 3/4+ 5 5/6

= 11/4 + 35/6

= 33+70 / 12

= 103/12

= 8 7/12

8.) 3 1/8 + 15/12

= 25/8 + 15/12

= 125+30/24

= 155/24

= 6 11/24

9.) 2 7/10 + 3 8/15

= 27/10 + 53/15

= 51+106 / 30

= 157/30

10.) 3 2/3 + 1/5/6 +2

= 11/3 + 11/6 + 2

= 22+11+12/6

= 45/6

= 7 3/6

= 7 1/2

11.) 3 + 1 4/15 + 1 3/20

= 3 + 19/15 + 23/20

= 180+76+69 / 60

= 325/60

= 65/12 (After cut both denominator and numerator by 5)

= 5 5/12

12.) 3 1/3 + 4 1/4 + 6 1/6

= 10/3 + 17/4 + 37/6

= 40+51+74 / 12

= 115/12

= 9 7/12

13.) 2/3+ 3 1/6 + 4 2/9 + 2 5/18

= 2/3 + 19/6 + 38/9 + 41/18

= 12+57+76+41 / 18

= 186/18

= 31/3 (After cut both the number by 6)

= 5 1/6

14.) 2 1/3 + 1/14 + 25/6 + 3 7/12

= 7/3 + 5/4 + 17/6 + 43/12

= 28+15+34+43 / 12

= 120/12

= 10

15.) 2 + 3/4+ 1 5/8 + 3 7/16

= 2 + ¾ + 13/8 + 55/16

= 32+12+26+15 / 16

= 85/16

= 5 5/16

16.) Rohit bought a pencil for 3 2/5 and an eraser  for 2 7/10. What is the total cost of both the articles?

Solution:

Here in the question, we have to find total cost

So, we have to addition

Therefore,

3 2/5 + 2 7/10

= 17/5 + 27/10

= 34+27 / 10

= 61/10

= 6 1/10

17.) Sohini bought 4 1/2 m of cloth for her kurta and 2 2/3 m of cloth for her pyjamas. How much cloth  did she purchase in all?

Solution:

Here in the question we have to find total meter of cloth that Sohini purchase.

So, if we add then the answer will come

Therefore,

4 ½ + 2 2/3

= 9/2 + 8/3

= 27+16 / 6

= 46/6

= 7 4/6

= 7 2/3

18.) While coming back home from  his school, Kishan covered 4 3/4 km by rickshaw and 1 1/2km on foot. What is the distance of his house from the school?

Solution:

Total Distance covered by Kishan

4 3/4 + 1 ½

= 19/4 + 3/2

= 19+12/4

= 31/4

= 7 ¾

The answer is 7 ¾ m cloth did he buy.

19.) The weight of an empty gas cylinder is 16 4/5 kg and it contains 14 2/3 kg. What is the weight of the cylinder filled with gas?

Solution:

The weight of the cylinder filled with gas

16 4/5 + 14 2/3

= 84/5 + 44/3

= 252+210 / 15

= 462 / 15

= 3 12/15

= 3 4/5

Ans. The total weight if the cylinder filled with gas = 3 4/5 kg.
